Mosunmola Abudu, usually known as Mo Abudu, is a Nigerian media mogul, media personality, philanthropist, and former human resources management consultant. She has been described by Forbes as “Africa’s Most Successful Woman”.

She has no doubt carved a lasting niche for herself in a world where men have been known to call the shots and is undeniably regarded by many as the “Oprah Winfrey of Africa” thanks to her talk show “Moment with Mo” and her EbonyLife channel alone on DSTV is worth billions of naira.
Mo Abudu is from Ondo Town in Ondo state of Nigeria. She was born in Hammersmith Hospital in London, United Kingdom in September 1964 to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Akintunde. She is the eldest of three sisters who lost her father at the age of 11.
She spent her childhood in United Kingdom where she worked her way through college. She attended the Ridgeway School, Mid Kent College and West Kent College. She got her Master’s degree in Human Resources Development from the University of Westminster in London. The Media mogul started her professional career as a Recruitment Consultant in 1987 with the Atlas Recruitment Consultancy firm in the UK. Mo rose to the position of a Branch Manager within a few years. She was headhunted by Starform Group in 1990; Starform is a very successful business information group in the UK. They manage the prestigious Corporate Credit Management Exhibition. Mo successfully managed the exhibition from 1990 through 1992. She assumed responsibility for the research, design and production of several conferences and seminars whilst at Starform.

She returned to Nigeria in 1993 and was also hunted by Arthur Andersen. She worked in the capacity of Head of Human Resources and Training for Esso Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited (Exxon). She successfully completed her responsibilities by the year 2000. Mo saw in Nigeria, a growing need for a trained and highly motivated talent pool that would take Nigerian businesses into the 21st century. Taking advantage of her reputation, she resigned from a job at ExxonMobil after a decade to start Vic Lawrence & Associates Limited popularly known as VLA.
She also started an executive training center at the Protea Hotel, Oakwood Park, Lagos at about the same time.

She is the Executive Producer & Host of the TV talk show “Moments with Mo” and is also the creator of The Debaters, a reality TV show that was funded by Guaranty Trust Bank. On June 30, 2013, MO Abudu’s TV Network EbonyLife, began broadcasting to a pan-African audience. The channel is distributed to 49 African countries, including South Africa and Southern African countries.

So far, EbonyLife TV has produced and aired original shows like “Sons of the Caliphate,” “Fifty the Series” and “The Governor.”

Mo produced a record breaking movie “The Wedding Party” in 2017  which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival before emerging the highest grossing Nollywood movie.  Her latest production “The Royal Hibiscus Hotel” recently premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Abudu also recently completed an intensive 3-week course for directors at the London Film School and is most likely to make her directorial debut soon. Amongst all the caps she wears, she is also a doting mother of 2 beautiful kids.
